The Difficulty of In-Between Purchases

What is the difficulty of in-between purchases? Say you want a guitar. This might be something of a trial purchase, you might not know whether you’re going to enjoy learning to play the guitar, so this will likely mean that you opt for a cheap point of entry that can simply give you a feel of what guitars are like.

If this is a success, then great, but it means that you’re going to have to buy another guitar further down the line, perhaps one that’s more expensive and higher quality. Regarding the difficulty of in-between purchases, these purchases are valuable, but they can represent a greater cost, and at times, a bigger commitment of space in your home.

Difficulty of In-Between Purchases: Large Purchases and Utilities

The greater difficulty comes when this initial, cheaper purchase is something that’s going to take up a lot of space in the home. On top of taking up a lot of space, it might also be that it’s difficult to install or uninstall when the time comes to replace it with something else.

Washing machines, dishwashers, ovens—when you’re getting one of these utilities for the home, it’s important to accept that some difficulty is a natural part of it.

However, these are also utilities that you’re going to be much more confident about. Once you’ve done the necessary research to confirm the model you’re getting is reliable, it’s unlikely that you’re going to later decide that you don’t want an oven. That means that you can take the plunge immediately and invest in one that you know can be trusted.

It doesn’t have to be utilities, though. It might be that it’s another musical instrument, though this time, something like a piano, or a piece of furniture, like a sofa.

In the case of the latter especially, you might find that it’s natural to decide further down the line that you want to get an upgrade.

Having an idea of what you’re going to do with the older model can help you to navigate this process, such as taking it to a waste disposal site, or even selling it and then getting it delivered through companies like Shiply USA that can handle larger goods.

In this case, you might have to vary the direction you take based on what it is—pianos can be a good item to sell and you might think it wasteful to just dispose of it. However, old mattresses could be unhygienic to treat in the same way, making disposal your best option.

Difficulty of In-Between Purchases: Accepting the Process

As in the initial example of the guitar, it might be best just to think of this as the necessary costs involved. You’re paying an initial price to try out something new, and if you end up wanting to take that newfound hobby further, you’ll likely feel motivated enough to spend more.

It doesn’t matter too much though, the only difficulty comes in getting rid of the older item and making sure the switchover doesn’t cause you too much of an inconvenience. A lot of the time, it won’t. In the times that it will, you might find that it’s simply accepted that this is going to be part of it.

For example, when you buy a car, you don’t need to immediately start worrying about what you’re going to do with that car if you eventually buy a new one. When you start thinking about whether you’d like a new car, you can think of all the possible options that you have for your current vehicle at the same time, many of which might involve simply selling it to one of the many different vendors.

Difficulty of In-Between Purchases: The Last-Minute Buy

There might also be times when you find yourself buying something because you need it immediately. This situation can remove preference from the occasion, taking away the luxury of time in such a way that you’re likely going to end up with something functional rather than the ideal candidate.

A good example of this might be when you need an outfit for an event, such as a wedding that’s coming up soon. Doing what you can to get something that suits the occasion and falls within your budget might be more important than getting something that you’re going to love wearing every time there’s a similar event in the future.

The difficulty is that it doesn’t always make sense to prioritize these kinds of purchases when there isn’t an imminent need for them. However, taking some time to go out and get something that you know will suit events like this in the future can have you feeling much more comfortable when the time arises, removing the need for a last-minute panic buy.
